Phoenix Park

What better way to end my adventures in Ireland before coming home to Phoenix than by visiting the only park in Dublin with that name.

Phoenix Park doesn’t just have a cool name, though. It is also the largest park in Europe. Made up of 1,752 acres, Phoenix park has more than enough space for you and your moms to hang out or, on the contrary, for you to get away from everyone and find and spot unbothered by the world.

When my roommates and I made it to the park, which is about 13 minutes from the Spire on O’Connell Street in Dublin, Lucy (pictured below) had the genius idea of renting bikes to better see the park.

Renting bikes easily made the experience. Without the bikes we wouldn’t have been able to see even a quarter of all that the park had to offer. We rented the bikes from Phoenix Park Bikes located at the mouth of the park for an hour, costing us each six euros. (That’s $6.68 for all my U.S. friends.) It cost an extra euro to pay with a card, just as a heads up. Also make sure you have your I.D. or something to leave with them while you rent the bikes. For more information on the rental company click here.

I can’t stress enough how amazing having a bike made our time there. There’s something about going on a bike ride (at least for me) that really adds to the wholesomeness of your day.

The park is absolutely beautiful. With more space than you can even imagine, it resembles more of an open forest than it does a park. Which leads me to my next point: fallow deer.

Yes, you read that right. There are about 450 fallow deer that live in the park. While we were able to see a ton of them from afar when we went on our city bus tour our first week there, we saw only one on our bike ride, and fairly close up, which was still plenty exciting for me.

Biking all over Phoenix Park even for just one hour really made my day. Despite completely making a fool of myself and almost getting hit by a car (again, not a particularly coordinated person), I had an amazing time and would love to go back.

Here’s a map to show you where Phoenix park is in relation to the Spire and all the deer footage you didn’t ask for. 🙂
