Oak Creek

Since I can’t seem to concentrate long enough to write a full blog, I have written a “mini blog.”

And the topic of this itty, bitty “mini blog” is one of my favorite things to do in Sedona, AZ: play in the creek.

Oak Creek, one of the many creeks in Sedona, stretches along State Route 89A, which makes it easily accessible from the road.

Oak Creek in Sedona, AZ, runs alongside State Route 89A.

To make matters even more convenient, there are spots all along the road to pull over at and short trails near them that lead to the water below.

One of the many trails down to the creek, accessible from the roadside.

My family and I have stopped to play in Oak Creek more times than I can remember when traveling between Flagstaff and Phoenix so that we could cool off our dogs – especially when the weather was scorching.

While I’m sure we’ve stopped at a dozen or so different places along the creek, here is the location of the last stretch of road we parked at to play in the water.

This part of the creek, like the others, is beautiful, but it also has a concrete slab built as a part of an old aqueduct that could easily double as a sweet picnic spot.

In addition to being a great way to get yourself and your dog(s) in the water, Oak Creek is also incredibly peaceful and serene – an opportune place to paint, read, play guitar or anything else you might be interested in.

If you love rings and all things shiny as much as me, you should also stop at the Native American jewelry stands located next to this Dairy Queen, just outside of the city. Their pieces are beautiful and reasonably priced.

Even if you don’t go all the way into Sedona itself, I highly recommend visiting Oak Creek on your next trip near there (or even if you’re hours away). Whether it be to stretch your legs, submerge yourself in the freezing water or try your luck at catching crawfish.

No reason or adventure is too small. Not even this “mini blog.”
